Elon Musk Announces 'Grok' AI Chatbot for X Premium+ Subscribers to Rivel With ChatGPT

Elon Musk has revealed the inaugural AI model built by xAI, the startup founded by the man who owns the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. This AI, called ‘Grok’, has been developed to compete with competing technology from organizations like OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft. Grok will additionally incorporate Musk’s trademark sense of humor that is often featured in his social media posts on X. The chatbot is currently testing with a select group of users and will be available exclusively to X Premium+ customers, as confirmed by Tesla’s CEO.

In a recent Sunday blog post, XAI made an announcement regarding the gradual rollout of the Grok prototype to a select group of users based in the United States, with plans for a broader release in the future. The startup has also revealed its intention to introduce additional features and capabilities in the coming months. Interested users can sign up for a waiting list to experience the new Grok chatbot, which is accessible through the X platform and as a standalone application, as Musk mentioned.

The AI startup has promoted several notable features of the Grok chatbot, such as its ability to provide real-time data from Source X and its ability to suggest questions. Still, the company cautions that Grok has a “playful attitude” and may respond with a touch of humor. According to the firm, the chatbot had to go through a two-month training process.

The new Large Language Model (LLM), known as Grok-1, powers xAI and has been in development for the past four months. The startup reports that LLM has gone through several iterations and currently achieves 63.2 percent accuracy on the HumanEvil coding task. Additionally, as stated by the company, its score on the Massive Multitask Language Understanding (MMLU) dataset is 73 percent.

No specific release date has been announced for when Grok will be available to all users, but Musk revealed via X that access will be limited to those who subscribe and pay for it. Once Grok is made accessible to the general public, X Premium+ subscribers, who contribute around $16 (roughly Rs. 1,300) per month, will get the privilege of using the chatbot on the microblogging platform.
