On Tuesday, Apple introduced its latest MacBook Pro models, which include the latest M3 processor family. These laptops come with Liquid Retina XDR displays and are advertised to offer a remarkable 22 hours of battery life. Apple is also emphasizing the improved performance brought by its new chip lineup, which includes the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max. These chips are manufactured using TSMC’s cutting-edge 3nm process technology and provide support for hardware-accelerated ray tracing. Additionally, they feature a novel memory innovation called Dynamic Caching, which is designed to increase GPU performance when running resource-intensive applications and games.

MacBook Pro Review

Display

The latest MacBook Pro models feature Liquid Retina XDR displays in both 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, with a resolution of 3,024×1,964 pixels, a 120Hz refresh rate, and impressive brightness levels, reaching 1600 nits for HDR content and 600 nits for SDR content. Additionally, these laptops come equipped with a backlit keyboard that supports Touch ID for seamless biometric authentication.

Performance

Apple’s latest MacBook Pro lineup is powered by their latest M3 chip family, which includes the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max. The top-tier M3 Max chip is customizable with 128GB of RAM, marking the largest RAM capacity ever offered in Apple’s laptop range. In contrast, the M3 and M3 Pro-equipped models offer options up to 24GB and 36GB of RAM, respectively.

Following the initial launch of M2-powered MacBook Pro models in January, Apple has introduced its second set of MacBook Pro models this year. The latest chips, manufactured using TSMC’s cutting-edge 3nm process technology, come with impressive specifications, boasting up to 16 CPU cores, up to 40 GPU cores, and up to 16 Neural Engine cores.

These laptops can be configured with storage options of up to 1TB SSD. Apple claims that the new M3 Pro chip performs up to 40 times better than its previous M1 Pro processor and significantly outpaces previous MacBook Pro models with Intel Core i7 CPUs with up to 11 times faster performance.

The latest M3 series offers minor CPU enhancements compared to the previous generation. However, Apple has emphasized the notable GPU advancements in the new 3nm chips. These include hardware-accelerated ray tracing and a refreshed dynamic caching feature, which enables the M3 chip’s GPU to efficiently allocate specific local memory for optimized memory usage across different tasks, the company said.

Connectivity

The latest MacBook Pro models are equipped with a number of connectivity options, including Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, a flexible selection of up to three Thunderbolt 4/USB 4 ports, a MagSafe 3 charging port, an SDXC card reader, an HDMI port, and an SD card reader port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Battery

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M3 chip boasts a battery life of up to 22 hours on a single charge. Meanwhile, the M3 Pro and M3 Max variants of the 14-inch model still offer an impressive 18 hours of battery life. For those opting for the larger 16-inch MacBook Pro, models with M3 Pro and M3 Max chips can enjoy up to 22 hours of battery life.
