In a recent update, Meta has introduced a new feature that simplifies the process of transferring WhatsApp chat history from an old phone to a new one, eliminating the need for backups or cloud services. This enhancement applies to both Android and iOS users, allowing them to seamlessly transfer their chat history and media attachments between devices running the same operating system. Previously, WhatsApp provided a transfer option, but it required backing up chat history to local storage or uploading it to the cloud.
WhatsApp has introduced a new chat transfer feature that uses QR codes, which enables users to transfer various chat information such as messages and media files, including documents, links, and videos. It is important to note that this feature does not support the transfer of peer-to-peer paid messages or call history.
To transfer your WhatsApp chat history using a QR code, please ensure that both your phones have Android operating system version Lollipop 5.1 or Android 6 or the latest version installed. The new phone mustn’t be registered on WhatsApp before starting the transfer process. Additionally, make sure that both handsets have Wi-Fi enabled and are connected to the same network.
To transfer chats on iOS, both old and new iPhone models need to have WhatsApp installed for iOS version 2.23.9.77 or more latest version.
Transfer WhatsApp Chat History on Android Phone
- Open WhatsApp on the old phone. Go to More Options > Settings > Chats > Transfer chats > Start.
- On the new handset, install and register on WhatsApp using the same number.
- Select Start on Transfer chat history from the old phone.
- Allow the permissions and a QR code will appear. Scan this code using your old device.
- Once the permission for connecting the phone is granted, the process will begin.
- As the import is finished, tap Done.
Transfer WhatsApp Chat History on iOS device
- Open WhatsApp on an old iPhone and go to Settings > Chats > Transfer Chats to iPhone > Start.
- On the new phone, install WhatsApp and register using your phone number.
- Now select Continue on Transfer chat history to iPhone.
- Using the camera on your old phone, scan the QR code shown on your new device.
- Once the transfer completes, setup your profile on the new device.
